Escape
As our lovely, quite, peaceful mountain town incomprehensably hosts a Harley rally every Labor Day weekend, we usually look for some excuse to get out of town every year. So believe it or not, we retreated to the Big City (Denver) for some peace and quiet. Besides escaping the incesant rumble of motorcycles all day and night, we looked at it as a good excuse to do some baby shopping for the twins, and to give our daughter a treat before all hell breaks loose in our family. Yeah, it is a 6 hour drive each way, but what's not to like about driving through Colorado?
We rented a wheelchair to take along, since walking more than a block causes too much pain/discomfort/contractions for my wife these days. Cribs were a priority on this trip. Otherwise we were faced with a choice of the wopping selection of two models at the local Walmart or three others at the Target an hour away, or a few $400-$500 models at the local baby boutique. Oh yeah, or we could order them on the Web and pay $75-$100 each in shipping charges. That alone more than compensated for all of our gas and meals.
We hit a Babys-R-Us store on Saturday. What a great place! They must have had 30-40 cribs on the floor. After we checked them all out, we grabbed a sales associate to ask a few questions. This guy was awsome. Before I knew it, he was wheeling my wife around the crib section as we looked at different options, while pulling a shopping cart behind him, all the while telling me to relax. We ended scoring a cool blue crib and changing table set, but they only had one crib in stock. They called another store, found a matching crib, paid for it over the phone, and aranged for us to pick it up later that day.
Best of all, Babys-R-Us has a 10% multiples discount that we didn't know about, which essentially turned into a free crib by the time we were all done (cribs, changing table, bedding, diaper bags...). And God knows how, but we managed to fit it all in the back of the 4 Runner. With that accomplished, it left Sunday and Monday open for visits to the Denver zoo and aquarium and some clothes for a rapidly growing little kid.
The pile of stuff we are accumulating (or have resurected) for the twins is growing. Something tells me I'm going to be assembling nursery furniture this weekend.
